Hotter than a stiff cock

No, this movie does not contain sex scenes or shirtless men. I merely quoting Julia Child to illustrate how excellent this movie is!

“These damn things are hotter than a stiff cock!” Julia Child (played by Meryl Streep) said in reference to her soufflé on her cooking show.

The film Julie and Julia tells two stories- Child in the 50s, writing her book Mastering the Art of French Cooking and Julie Powell (played by Amy Adams) in August 2002, blogging about her daily experiences of cooking each of the 524 recipes in Child’s book.

The film is simple and calm, the story isn’t particularly dramatic nor comedic–publishing of books are the climax, while pleasures of uxoriousness fill the movie, yet it succeeds so much in being refreshing and being reflective of the emotional truths inside and outside the kitchen.

Engaging and appetizing, Julie & Julia progresses with so much ease and charm that its characters will leave you lighthearted and high-spirited.

Streep, acting so effortlessly, has satisfied all earthly expectations and has left critics out of superlatives to use, making them settle for, “she has outdone herself again.”

She’s absolutely electrifying.

Amy Adams also does well, but as forgettable as her character in Doubt & Amanda Seyfried in Mamma Mia!

Stanley Tucci, playing Child’s husband, is so endearing and delightful, that when he says, “You are the butter on my bread, you are the breath in my life,” one cannot wish for a better, more perfect man. His lines don’t come off as cheesy, but robust and believable.

Most strikingly was the movie’s setting: Paris in the ’50s, fabulous and full of life.

It’s also quite refreshing to watch a Hollywood movie wherein women trump their husbands. Even though their husbands practically dictate their life choices, Julie and Julia practically pawns their husbands, and shows them nobility and elegance of a housewife.

This is truly a lovely film, even easy to savor. Must watch of the season.

Opened at local theaters yesterday, October 14. Don’t watch this on an empty stomach!
